This new format has been developed to provide
the most outstanding pictures possible from any small format recorder.
The video cassette is smaller than a standard audio cassette, yet
can record 2 high quality audio channels and full color video. The
playback resolution and signal to noise ratio are virtually indistinguishable
from the original signal. Copies of the tape are the same quality
as the original due to digital to digital dubbing.
The small size and light weight allow this unit
to fit in confined areas. Also under development are multiple units
which will incorporate 2 or 4 decks operating in series or parallel.
These multiple units can be built into a housing which will occupy
a much smaller space that single units mounted together. Those multiple
units can be selected to run in the series mode, in which case the
recording time can be extended to 4 hours without changing tapes.
If the units are run in the parallel mode up to 4 channels of video
can be recorded using IRIG or SMPTE time code. The tapes can be played
back synchronously using a playback station with a serial controller
designed by IVT for that purpose.
Overall, the ADVCR-101 represents the latest
in the technology shift toward digital recording. It provides outstanding
color imaging and audio quality in a package which is both small,
rugged, and lightweight.
